National Tequila Day: Cocktail Recipe and Deal

We'll be serving Tequila tonight in honor of National Tequila Day (who knew?). A cool Watermelon Basil Margarita will start the evening off. On the slight chance that one of our dinner guests is reading this, I won't divulge the menu. Maybe just a peek: the Margarita will be followed by Chilled Corn Soup. Care to guess what else we're cooking for dinner? For those not on the guest list, here's the Margarita recipe to try at home. It's adapted from a recipe from BLT Steak.

Watermelon Basil Margarita

1/2 cup watermelon
2 sprigs fresh basil, torn
1 oz. agave (I buy it at the Hollywood Farmers Market, also available at Whole Foods)
1/2 oz. fresh lime juice
2 oz. Herradura Tequila

In a cocktail shaker muddle the watermelon until juicy. Add torn basil sprigs, agave, lime juice and tequila. Add several ice cubes and shake. Strain into cocktail glass. Garnish with a thin slice of watermelon.

Prefer to go out instead? Taste on Melrose is offering 2 for 1 tequila drinks all weekend. Just mention "tequila makes me happy" to receive the promo.
